HARMONICS
MATHEMATICAL FASHION
A visual representation of an inherit gesture counterbalancing a game of equilibrium and inertia. Simple yet defined by complex harmonic motion, the harmonograph illustrates the mathematics of a dimensional representation of space. Built by a series of pendulum compositions, swinging back and forth with non-constant amplitude resulting from a frictional dampening, its regular oscillation serves as a measure and tracing of time. Rhythm, meter, tempo, frequency,
tonality and intensity are the periodic parameters of the harmonograph’s motion. Nevertheless, regardless of its implicit dynamics these images still remain passively fixed in time. This study constitutes on new conceptualizations of space, sculpting perception by re-thinking and tracing motion. These gestures transcend the plane and are incorporated in the volumetric design of the collection.
